A blast from the past... how the Old Gym looked in 1963

  • All Dances and formals were held in the old gym and commitees worked tirelessly to make them memorable occasions.

  • The Old Gym contained underground lockerrooms and a hardwood basketball court surrounded by seating that could accommadate 1200 people. The floor of the Old Gym used to sport an impressive hand painted bison by Molly McCullum but it was later repainted.

  • A student in 1963 shared, "all gym classes were held in the Old Gym, where we wore navy blue shorts and ironed white button up shirts." Inspection was a daily affair and they were know to bring in trampolines once a year for the students.

  • Pep assemblies were a common event and the band wore blue sweaters or skirts and pants.

  • The High School complex was constructed in 1896.

  • Limited space was a factor but only the boys competed in sports at that time with basketball tournaments and wrestling matches held there.
